Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to adopt a cat?

You must be at least 18 years old to adopt from us.

How do I pay?

Our PayPal address where you can easily send us payments is at paypal.me/fhff. All payments must be made through PayPal to ensure ease of transaction and security.

Are the deposit and adoption fees refundable?

Our deposit fee is non-refundable once we receive it. We believe adopting a pet is a serious decision, so we treat your deposit as a sign of your commitment to adopting and taking care of a cat. Other adoption fee refunds are determined on a case by case basis.

Where are you located? Can I come visit your cats?

As we are not a shelter, we do not have a centralized location that is open to the public to visit. Most of our cats and kittens are taken care of in foster homes. For various safety reasons, we do not offer visits to cats and kittens in their foster homes prior to adoption. We sometimes bring cats and kittens to PetSmart in Hadley, MA where they are available to be visited at any time without appointment. Please be sure to read a cat’s full adoption profile to see if they are in foster care or at the Hadley PetSmart.

I just sent an application. How long do I wait to hear back?

We do our best to respond within a week. Occasionally we receive many applications for one cat, thus extending the amount of time it takes to respond to all applicants by a few days.

I already own another cat/other pets. How do I make sure they get along with my new cat?

We encourage adopters to use the “Base Camp” method by Jackson Galaxy, which encourages slow and gradual introduction of your cat to your home and the other living beings in it.

What kind of foods do you feed your cats while in foster care? What litter do they use?

Most of our fosters feed their foster cats Science Diet brand dry food. Kittens eat the Kitten variety and adult cats eat the Adult variety. For wet food, Friskie's Canned Wet Food is what most of our foster cats and kittens eat. Wet food is served twice a day for breakfast and dinner. Dry food is left out 24/7 with water. If you plan to feed your cat other brands of food, please gradually transition them from these brands to the new ones to avoid digestive problems.

As for litter, all of our cats are well-trained to use clumping litter in a litter box. Brands we mostly use are Tidy Cats and Fresh Step. Adopters are free to attempt to train their cats to use a different litter brand or type.
