Available Cats for Adoption
Please read this page in its entirety before applying to adopt!!!
About our cats
You can view any cats we have readily available for adoption on our Petfinder page (link opens in new window).
It is very important that you read the adoption profiles in full to see if a cat is located in a foster home or at PetSmart in Hadley, MA!
Cats in foster homes are not available to be visited prior to adoption. Cats at PetSmart are available to be visited at any time in the store without appointment.
All of our cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, examined by a veterinarian, and litter box trained before being listed for adoption. Any known medical conditions or needs are described in a cat’s adoption profile if applicable.
Below is a chart detailing all medical services our rescue provides our cats prior to adoption. (Mobile users: You may need to zoom out or scroll sideways to view entire chart.)

How to adopt
1. Fill out an adoption application online.
We have two online applications, one for cats in foster homes and another for cats at PetSmart. Again, be sure to read the description of the cat you are interested in adopting to know their location so you can fill out the appropriate application. The links to these applications are further down on this page. Please continue reading to find them.
You MUST be at least 18 years old to apply to adopt.
2. After submitting your application, we will contact you by email regarding approval.
Our approval emails sometimes get marked as spam! Keep an eye on your email's spam folder after you submit an application. We review applications in order that they are received, and we often receive a high volume of applications at once. Please allow us at least a couple of days to respond to your application.
3. If approved, we will ask you to pay a deposit to us via PayPal (paypal.me/fhff).
Deposits are $50 per cat you are adopting and are non-refundable. If you are adopting two cats the deposit is $100, and so on. Deposits should be paid as soon as possible once we have notified you of your application approval. If the deposit is not made in good time, the cat may be adopted to someone else.
Refer to the chart below for our typical prices.
Deposit | Total Price | |
---|---|---|
1 Kitten (under 1 year old) | $50 | $325 |
2 Kittens | $100 | $600 |

4. Once the deposit is received, an adoption appointment will be arranged for you to pick up your new cat.
Cats from foster homes: Appointments will be made for a Saturday in the late morning or early afternoon (11:00 am or later). Pickup location will be at a volunteer’s house in Belchertown, MA. The address will be provided through email. In the case of barn cats, a volunteer will arrange with you to transport the barn cat to your home.
Cats at PetSmart: Appointments will be made for your soonest availability at the PetSmart store.
Adopters will receive .PDF files of their cat’s medical records prior to adoption. Most paperwork will be done digitally.
Adopters MUST bring their own cat carrier to their adoption appointments!!!
5. Be sure to have these items in your home so your cat has a comfortable first night!
- A safe, hard shell cat carrier
(We will not turn away a soft shell carrier, however we recommend hard shell carriers if you do not already own a cat carrier)
- Wet and dry cat food that is appropriate for your cat’s age and food/water bowls
(We recommend Friskies canned wet food twice a day and Science Diet dry food left out all day with water)
- Cat litter and litter boxes
(We train our cats on clumping cat litters such as Tidy Cats and Fresh Step)
- Plenty of toys
(Wands, plastic springs, scratching pads, and catnip toys are popular favorites)
- A cat tree
